Significant work on the widening of the A3 Naples-Pompei-Salerno freeway, financed by ANAS and contracted to Società Autostrade Meridionali, was undertaken between 1998 and 2002. Major interventions included:
- Widening to three lanes in each direction in the section between km 17+568 and km 19+269, affecting the Pompei Scafati exits and the section from Scafati to Torre Annunziata.
- The construction of a new road connection between Via Sant'Elena and Via Scappi in the City of Torre del Greco.
These works have improved traffic flow and safety on a strategic roadway built in the 1970s and subject to high traffic volumes. Archaeological finds were discovered during the excavations and secured in cooperation with the Superintendence of Environmental and Archaeological Heritage. In addition, existing vegetation, such as centuries-old Mediterranean pines, was protected.

Jobs 2002 - 2003
The 2002-2003 period saw the completion of the main batch of works on the A3 Naples-Pompei-Salerno Highway, focusing on the third lane between km 22+400 and km 25+300 and the modernization of the ramps at the Scafati interchange.
Operations included:
- The search for and relocation of interfering subservices.
- Hydraulic work at the Scafati and Castellammare interchanges.
On the occasion of Pope John Paul II's visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii, urgent interventions were carried out, including:
- A large traffic circle at the intersection of the Scafati toll gate, Via Acquasalsa and Via Lepanto.
- A second traffic circle on Lepanto Street to improve access to the interchange.
- The rehabilitation of a water main on Acquasalsa Street with new paving and lighting upgrades at the Scafati tollgate
Jobs 2003 - 2005
In 2003-2005, interventions focused on the widening and modernization of the A3 Naples-Pompei-Salerno Highway, with special attention to the new road axis between Via Sant'Elena and Via Scappi in the municipality of Torre del Greco.
This strategic link has helped to improve the connection between the local network and the highway, fostering greater accessibility and smoother traffic in an area of growing infrastructure demand.
