Project Description and Working Team
In 2017, Unimpresa SPA was awarded through an international tender the contract for the design and rehabilitation of the runway NEW RUNWAY Bole Airport in Addis Ababa. The project, coordinated by Prof. Alessandro Marradi of Dynatest Italy, involved several specialized partners: Dynatest Italy (paving and civil works), Tecno Engineering 2C S.r.l. (AGL and safety plan), Eng. Carlo Criscuolo (concept design AGL CAT 3), and CORE Consulting PLC (drainage systems). The work focused on removing the deteriorated layer of the existing runway and applying a new layer of asphalt, as well as lighting and drainage work. 80% of the budget was allocated to the NEW RUNWAY, while the remainder covered interventions on the OLD RUNWAY, which accommodated traffic during the works.

Project Phases
- Survey Phase: After the contract was awarded, detailed inspections, geotechnical investigations, and pavement condition assessments were conducted for design.
- Design Phase: It included topographic surveys, geometric design of the track and drainage, and pavement design, signage and markings. Special attention was given to quality management, with detailed documentation.
- Phase of the Construction Sites: Work performed included milling of deteriorated pavement, laying of new asphalt, implementation of lighting system (AGL) and drainage works. 301,200 square meters of green areas were also upgraded.
